This Oakland residential project showcases a masterclass in nature play by transforming salvaged Deodar Cedar and Eucalyptus into an immersive, sensory-focused backyard landscape. Our team curated a diverse mix of materials, including precision-cut cedar blocks and unique "codominant" Eucalyptus stumps, to encourage tactile exploration and connection to local timber. By repurposing these urban trees, we turned salvaged material into a high-value playground that celebrates the raw, natural geometry of the California environment.

Using deconstructed, salvaged old-growth redwood, we created paneling for this private resident’s outdoor BBQ. This is the same wood we used in our earlier featured project for Fieldwork Brewing, ensuring no wood goes to waste. Nick used a matte finish on the wood to protect it from the outdoor elements.

The table was meticulously finished and carefully chosen so that the longer table and the shorter table line up perfectly to expand the space and make a perfect space for entertaining guests.

We know that eucalyptus has a bad reputation as an invasive species, with highly flammable sap and leaves, but once the lumber is properly dried and treated, the strength, hardness, and durability of the wood make it perfect for the walkway foundation.

Here is an example of how reclaimed wood can enhance a private luxury space. Redwood was our choice for the space due to its deep, rich color and durability. Our goal at Bay Area Redwood is to keep felled and salvaged wood out of the waste system by prolonging their legacies in other forms. Adding reclaimed wood to luxury, private, and even public spaces adds character and life.
