Wadaadɨktihím K’aw: Intertribal Garden at C’aapá

El Dorado County, CA

This bench defines the entrance of the Intertribal Garden space named Wadaadɨktihím K’aw: Intertribal Garden at C’aapá. The name of the garden means ‘land that has been revitalized/brought back to life’ in the Nisenan language. This tending and gathering garden at Wakamatsu Farm in El Dorado County is a space in which various Tribal Partners have worked with American River Conservancy to create a garden space in which planting, tending, and gathering of native plants will be of benefit to the land and the people.

Huhuunga (Place of the Bears)

One of our most culturally significant projects to date is the installation of custom benches at Huhuunga with the Tongva Taraxat Paxaavxa Conservancy. Every piece was carefully selected by our CEO, Nick Harvey, and the Landscape Architecture team at Schmidt Design Group, taking into account the cultural significance of the California Oak and the enduring quality of the benches. Bay Area Redwood shares the TTPC's values and philosophy of honoring the life cycle of trees, minimizing harmful environmental impact, and respecting the living landscape. We were grateful to be chosen to work on such a meaningful project.

Lamchin Interpretive Center (Open hours 10am–5pm Daily)

Woodside, CA

We at Bay Area Redwood understand the importance of recognizing and acknowledging the past and present stewardship of the original inhabitants of this land. The Filoli Lamchin Interpretive Center aims to walk visitors through the history and story of the Ramaytush Ohlone peoples, who are the original caretakers of the San Francisco Peninsula. This project was a collaboration between the Association of Ramaytush Ohlone and Filoli. We provided two types of wood throughout the exhibition: Redwood, which grew on the slopes of the mountains, and Coast Live Oak, found in the flatlands and rolling foothills.
